Oriental Rugs



The mysterious world of Orient! The cradle of civilization which stretches from the Black and the Mediterranean Seas east to China. The countries of Asia such as Turkey, China, Iran, India, Pakistan and many others produce what is known as oriental rugs. All these countries are connected by common religion, culture, history which influenced the shape of this art.

Of course evry country creates different quality and styles of rugs. But one thing that distingushes oriental rugs from all others is that they have a natural look in almost any room and home. They can be placed in the living room as well as in the dining room.


The pattern in oriental rugs range from garden elements to tribal geometric design. Oriental rugs have color scheme from lively, vivid colors to muted earth tones. They can have simple design as well as busy pattern.
If to take Turkmenian rugs, they have dominating dark red scheme.


The base is mainly cotton and the pile is wool. The dyers used are natural as well as synthetic. The texture may be different. The most wide spread are rugs not very tight- 100-200 thousands of knots per square metre. But sometimes it is found Turkmenian rugs with 600 thousand knots per square metre. The usual sizes are 60x90 cm to 1.5x2 m but large sizes are not rare either.
