Rag rugs are small masterpieces performed in different almost forgotten methods. Rag rugs use different techniques: tambour, sewn center shirring, twisted cords rugs and 'rope' rugs. One of the most interesting methods is tambour. The form of the rug produced by this method is rather simple. But the method itself is difficult to handle. Such rag rugs are made on canvas base and its loops form a chain. Tambour patterns are striped braid, raised braid, 2 strand braid or 2 strand chain. Center shirred rugs have simple construction and deep textures. Twisted cords rugs speak for themselves. Nowadays these rugs are valued more than they used to originally when they were considered to substitute braided rugs in poor man’s dwelling. They were made of cottons rather than wool. That’s why they are not so durable. Rag rugs are usually available in round, oval or rectangular shapes. But the technique allows experimenting with shape. Heart shaped rugs, half-round rugs, and even 'winding path' are also possible. Rag rugs are the best way to decorate your country house. You may put it near the entry to give inviting look or place it near the bed to make you getting up warm and soft. Besides rag rugs will add romantic flair and will no way look poor or cheap. |
