Tibetan Rugs

From times immemorial wool of Tibetan sheep was valued for its elastic properties and resistance to tears. Its smooth surface and good light reflection add it distinctive luster.
Though there are no records of rug production in the history of Tibet, it’s well known that Tibetans settled their tradition of rug weaving up to the end of the first millennium.

A strong civilization of Tibet flourished in the fertile Yarlung Valley –the present border of Nepal, Pakistan and Bhutan. Hand woven rugs became a definite aspect of Tibetan culture and rug weaving became a folk art. Ancient or antique Tibetan rugs have not survived to our times.

Tibetan rugs are woven from special endless Tibetan knots. The more knots it comprises, the more valuable is a rug. Design prevailing in Tibetan rugs is floral geometric. Another typical Tibetan rug features a tiger. Modern Tibetan rugs are created with designs fusing modern and ancient features.

It depends on the country to which the Tibetan rugs will be sold. Genuine Tibetan rugs use only natural dyes. So you may be sure that the colors will be the same after many years of service.
